The Hopeful Rise of Eco Business
Global Foot Print Network, as featured in an MSNBC news article today, predicts that the consumptive-industrial “overshoot” of the earth’s capacity to produce resources is at a critical point.
“Humanity is living off its ecological credit card,” said Mathis Wackernagel, head of the Global Footprint Network. “While this can be done for a short while, overshoot ultimately leads to liquidation of the planet’s ecological assets, and the depletion of resources, such as the forests, oceans and agricultural land upon which our economy depends.”
“On current projections, humanity will be using two planets’ worth of natural resources by 2050 — if those resources have not run out by then,” they say. ”People are turning resources into waste faster than nature can turn waste back into resources.”
If this estimate is data-based and more than exageration for the sake of a point, we have a very, forward-leading indicator of coming crisis for our present economic model. This is to say that capitalism, though not extinguished, will be increasingly pressed into the service of clean and sustainable technologies. After IT, coul eco-business be the coming boom?

No matter what, that is the cycle that we have to go thru in order to get back our humanity. All models (economic and socia) models comes and go thru out the history of mankind. All models come in a very specific location and created by specific race(s) with one intention which is how to create a perfect nation/ place for specific population. So, there is no single model (to my understanding) that is really focusing on the nations, races, all things that is above, on and inside the earth as one unity.
May be, with this climate change issue they will come up with a better model that see all the things in the world as one. A complete package policy for earth government (UN?????) may become a - can’t wait - remedies for the earth.
We have to be frank and honest that much of the problems were caused by the over-consumption by the developed countries and over-exploitation on the under developed and developing countries (may I ask, why the under developed and develping countries remains as they were for centuries and decades????? I guess many of you know the answer to - some countries feel by letting them that way may support the over-consumptive way of living in the developed countries.
I believe the Eco-business will become a new trend business but also be seen as a new hurdle to many of population in the developing countries in reaching a better standard of living. My apology for that pessism, because the fact is, population in developing and under developed countries do not really care with the climate changes because they are too caught up with the thoughts of how to get food 2morrow. While people in developed countries have the luxury of time to think whether tomorrow will be the end of the world.
I only hope that the old saying is true that Nature will train a man to be wise…….Let’s SAVE THE PLANET by Encouraging Correct Living in both Developed and under developed countries and use our limited resources of this tired OLD EARTH for humanity. Cheers……

Bill Joy recently said there was more money to be made from dealing with global warming than there was from the internet. I think the scale of the investment boom over the next decade will dwarf anything ever seen before.
The people at KPCB and Khosla Ventures (amongst others) seem to be putting plenty of money into this as well now…
